Military Works.
This page contains works with a Military flavour. Some, in fact most, are commissioned by individuals or organisations therefore resolution of the images are purposely of poor quality and nowhere near the quality of the actual piece. This prevents download/printing of other peoples property.
Please note, a commissioned original is exactly that...an original piece of work bespoke to the client's wishes after consultation with me. Prior to despatch I will provide an image to the commissioner for approval firstly at 'concept' stage and then as a finished piece. The original will then be the property of the commissioner but, copyright will remain the artist's property unless negotiated within the cost of the work. In return I promise that the original will not be reproduced in any way other than as an image for advertising purposes on this website.
Commissioned originals dependant on subject prices are all negotiated but guidelines are:
A3 Pencil/Watercolour prices start at £80 each unmounted incl p&p. However, if you have a wish then simply get in touch, I am able to tailor to suit for most requirements.
NEW - I am now able to accept card payments with my new machine either over the phone or by email. It accepts most cards.

PAYPAL is also available to pay for commissioned items.
A2 and larger pieces of work both pencil and other mediums are negotiable prices dependant on subject required. I am prepared to 'have a crack' at anything from architecture to pet portraits, simply contact me with your requirements for an informal discussion or quote.
Long story involved with this one concerning a Christmas present order of one of my originals which turned into this picture......another very happy customer.

This next picture was completed as a 'hommage' to a good fellows father. The commissioner had researched his father's military career as sadly he'd passed away earlier in life than expected. Therefore little was known. The chap served in the Royal Gloucestershire Hussars during WW2 and was very active in North Africa against Rommels vaunted Afrika Korps. the chap saved a comrades life one day and, during the conflict was lucky to survive being blown from each of the three main types of tank in which he crewed. This picture reflects these facts. And shows the three tanks, capbadge and Jerboa of the 8th Army 'Desert Rats' along with a portrait of the man himself. The picture was supplied framed and mounted in the Regimental Colours of the Gloucestershire Hussars with a small inscription 'windowed' into the mount. I met the guy in a service area on the M5 and, picture and money changed hands in a most 'mafia like' manner. Luckily the guy is a Police officer so no worries there. He was certainly chuffed with the result..............or at least he didn't arrest me!!

Before I move on with more commissions here are a couple additions to my print collection available in the MalcyArt shop page. Last year at TankFest, so many people asked if I had any 'German' stuff, that I thought I'd better do some!! Here are just a couple of the results.
Much asked after - The mighty Tiger Tank.

Then of course we - The Allies........had stuff too!!!!

As I said, these have been added to the print collection in the shop page.

Now, back to commissions

'The Rescue'.
An unusual request this first one. A chap from the Royal Army Medical Corps contacted me as he wanted a gift for a mate of his. The guy was responsible in 2008, for pulling a wounded vehicle driver from the cab of his 'Viking' after it had been hit by an IED in Afghanistan. The commissioner wanted a memory of the incident for his friend and this, after consultation and a few changes here and there, is what I came up with. As I say, a few changes which, when using watercolour paints, is not the easiest of tasks but, happily the client was satisfied and off it went into his care for framing etc. The scan had to be done in three chunks as, unusually, the commissioner wanted the picture in 'landscape' format of two A4 sized sheets end to end. So, please excuse the none too brilliant image. We can see our erstwhile hero dragging the wounded crewman to safety while the other two 'vikings' and a 'Jackal' rush in to provide local protection for the stricken vehicle.

This piece was commissioned when a chap wanted a memorial piece recording a piece of his late father's military career specifically the seaborne landings of Centurions during the Aden crisis, his father and mother meeting HM The Queen and a portrait of the fellow himself. Paul, however, liked it that much that he commissioned the second piece for himself relecting the fact that he served in both 2nd and 3rd RTR and the three vehicles on which he crewed. Not a brilliant photo (I didn't take it) I have to admit but conveys the subject quite well.

This recent piece was commissioned by a comrade who wanted to remember his career starting with 6RTR and ending with 3RTR reflecting his two favourite tanks plus himself and capbadge/regimental colours which of course can't be done in photographic form other than this really dodgy photo I took of the article prior to making some finishing detail changes. Vehicle reg Nos etc were all authentic vehicles that the chap crewed.

This recent commission is for an old C Squadron comrade who fancied a piece for his office wall. He certainly seems happy with the result unlike my feelings over the scan which is in fact, 2 scans joined together. The piece was supplied mounted ready for an off the shelf frame.

This next commission is for a dear friend in the US who's brother is in the US Marine Corps and is returning home shortly. It is a portrait of the chap on a street in Iraq with his Hummvee in the background. Dodgy scan I'm afraid as I had to scan in two halves then edit them together!
'Semper Fi'
These next two examples of work have been completed and are for sale in my shop as prints, the originals are also for sale.

Here are some examples of works I have created for, I'm glad to say, all my happy and satisfied clients.

This is a recent commission by Lindsay who wanted a picture of her husband's tank in Iraq 2003. This was a challenger as her hubbie was to receive it as a surprise. Another challenge was that she could only provide me with one photo of the front half of the tank but loads of photos of a model of the tank which he'd made. With emails wizzing around like nobody's business, between us we managed to recreate an authentic image of his Tank 'Cayenne' of Cyclops Sqn, 2RTR. She has kindly sent me a testimonial which is on my testimonials page.

This commission became one of two. An old comrade from 3RTR, left the Regiment (can't imagine why he wanted to do that!!!) and eventually went to Australia where he served on Leopard 1. He wanted a memory no photograph could provide, both with a 3RTR Chieftain and the RAAC Leo1, apologies for slightly blurred/dodgy photos. Then he thought it would be nice to commemorate his Uncle's service with 3RTR on Centurion Tanks and also meeting HRH Queen Elizabeth the Second.

This commission was for an Officer wishing to present an image of his Challenger 2 which he served on whilst in Iraq on Operation Telic, to his Squadron. This image is, in fact, an A3 print I had made for him as, he liked the original that much he wanted to have a copy for himself.

This next image is a montage of the commissioner's own snap shots to give himself a 'memories board'.

This print is a commission where the 2nd Royal Tank Regiment wish to record every major tank that they have served on since WW1 to the 21st Century. This first print is a 'tester'. If all goes well and the commission becomes an order there will be another 5 in the set to follow. The print will only be issued as an A2 signed limited edition to the Regiment. However, I will be issueing this print as an A2 print minus the 2 RTR Capbadge and RTR border so keep your eyes peeled on the prints page.
The original artworks of the individual tanks are also available to buy on the Artwork collection page. Just follow the text link on the page to the original artwork section.

Recently I was approached to do a pair of pictures as birthday presents for a couple old chums of mine. Judging by their looks and the nice email I got, they were pleased with the results.

This ink line work was to incorporate a likeness both of the commissioner and
a good friend he served with from photos he supplied. The story surrounding it can be read on his website at www.greenflash.org.uk

Once again, someone having seen my work, requested his specific Challenger 1 on Firing ranges in Germany reproducing.

This poorly scanned picture is a pencil portrait of a very old friend of mine - Stan The Man, he is superimposed into the Commander's seat of a Chieftain Tank with a superimposed Chieftain and Ferret Scout car (intact in the original)this is, as with almost all my work, in A3 size so was a 'tad' too large for my scanner. You can read about my adventures with Stan in my book Armoured Farmer, see the book page for ordering details.

This a DROPS vehicle along with the Royal Logistics Corps Capbadge worn by the client.

This pencil work was commissioned by a member of the REME upon posting away from the Royal Dragoon Guards. I offered him this pencil work of a team of Dragoons and REME preparing a CVR(T) Scimitar for an engine lift. Also in the picture is the circle tactical sign for C Squadron with who he served, the RDG and REME capbadges along with a researched historical insignia for the 'Black Dragoons' the Regimental forbears. It now hangs in the Sgt's Mess of the RDG.

A friend contacted me with a wish, a wish that he may have a picture of his old Centurion Tank and crew in Germany, his own likeness (from a very old photo) being on one of the members. He mentioned that his tank's registration No was 00BA20 and they had nicknamed it OOOOBA20 as a play on the German word Ueber (over). Well, this is what I came up with in pencil not only the right reg No but the picture title...OOOOOOOBA20 of course!! So, not content with that he then wanted this.......
A picture of when I was his Ferret Scout Car Driver, he woke me, each morning with a mug of steaming char!!

I hope that these few very low resolution examples of my work have whetted your appetite for your own piece of my work? If so, please don't hesitate in contacting me with your wish and I promise to try my hardest to match your wish with an original piece of work.
