032 - A4 Mounted/Framed Print - Saracen Armoured Personnel Carrier
We've already seen the Saladin which was designed to 'get in and get out' with its 76mm gun providing a potent punch. At the same time a need was identified for a vehicle to work alongside the Saladin carrying personnel. Sharing the same chassis as the Stalwart HMLC and Saladin, Saracen was born. Not only could it carry a section of Infantry but it could be built in command post or ambulance variants. Armed with a .30 Browning MG housed in a small turret and also a ring on top of the vehicle could mount an LMG in an anti aircraft role. Like Saladin and Stalwart the vehicle was popular with its crews and was widely sold across the world. The British Army used it in a variety of roles and it was even used by Armoured Regiments in a specialist infantry assault role for Tank crewmen in a Regimental Assault Troop (nicknamed 'Boot Troop'). The vehicle was also used extensively in Northern Ireland during the troubles. In this depiction I have sketched the vehicle with a Westland Scout Helicopter in the distance.
