073 - A4 Mounted/Framed print - FV432 (REME LAD)

After WW2 Britain among other nations realised there was a need for a dedicated protective vehicle to transport Infantry as part of the Armoured/Infantry Battle Group. During the ensuing Cold War Britain designed and built the Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) designated the FV432.

The first (Mk1) Vehicle was powered by a petrol engine and later modifications improved the design with a Diesel powered version with other improvements such as the NBC protection system being redesignated as the Mk2. This vehicle was the platform for many variants such as the FV434 - Mobile REME workshop, a FV432 ambulance version and command vehicle communications platform. The FV 438 also pictured in my gallery armed with Swingfire Anti tank Guided Weapons and even the base platform for the Abbot Self Propelled artillery vehicle. The infantry could also mount mortars and anti tank weapons in their FV432's. So a versatile vehicle which, even today serves in a variety of support roles. The vehicle still lives today now renamed 'Bulldog'.

The version I have sketched is a MK2 FV432 which was issued to Armoured Regiment Squadrons which each had a REME Light Aid Detachment (LAD) and was normally allocated as a form of command vehicle for the LAD commander a Staff Sergeant Artificer - known colloquially as 'Tiffy'. This particular version has a makeshift 'penthouse' erected over the large 'Mortar hatch' locally constructed in order to provide a little more room for stowage etc. The terrain I've sketched should be familiar to soldiers who served in Germany - I've attempted to convey the 'seasickness inducing' areas of the Soltau training area.

This signed print is supplied as an, A4 sized, mounted and framed product - shipped in a protective cardboard shipper. The frame has a high quality styrene glass sheet which will require the protective cello sheet removing before you hang the picture. The price stated includes UK 1st class postage.
